B1A4, Solo Day

They made a solo day and met an ailen while on a trip

The key concept began with the concept art of a spaceship with members on the beach with a simple story that American boys made a solo day and met an ailen while on a trip.

What was the charm/attractiveness of the artist that you wanted to shine through this project?
It was already a popular artist and I wanted to film a music video that emphasized the individuality of the members. I tried to solve it with the sensibility of American high-teen youth rather than K-pop sensibility.

What was the attractiveness of the song that you wanted to make it shine through this project?
As the title says, Solo Day, I tried to solve the interesting situation with the stories that the members experienced. I tried to make it fun by continuing to create situations with twists and turns in story. (If you look for it, there are hidden codes.)
What kind of directing principles did you set up and work on to convey the charm of the song and the artist?
I went through a lot of meetings with the artist with a simple synopsis. It was to shoot a music video in the U.S. simply, but when many thoughts gathered and the story became concrete, the size grew a little. The process of setting detailed character concepts with the members along with the draft was fun.
And I drew every cut in 0.5 seconds and filmed it (I found it difficult in the music video later). Colors also used a RED camera to produce a movie tone. It was my first time shooting for 5K. I remember it was hard to edit with a computer at that time.

Please share the process of deriving the visual concept of this work. What was the key concept, and what visual materials did you use? Were there any movies or creations that helped you in the process of conceptualizing?
The key concept began with the concept art of a spaceship with members on the beach with a simple story that American boys made a solo day and met an ailen while on a trip. I was caught by an alien to tell a story about my growth. We used the concept of turning back time, and we used dot game design to express retro feeling and flow of story smoothly.

" Twists and turns in story "

When was the most memorable moment during the pre-production process?
When I first saw the spaceship, it was memorable. I saw the draft of the spaceship in advance and went to the set, and I remember it because I saw the CG of my work for the first time. I remember working with foreign people I don't know for the first time in my life and I think it was a chance to change my life.

When was the most memorable moment during the shoot?
Actually, the whole process is almost memorable. I was filming on the beach and a lot of helicopters were passing by I was watching and my American friends told me it was Obama's helicopter.

When was the most memorable moment during the post-production process?
First of all, I remember Sunny having a hard time editing. It is my first time to film a big music video and the computer speed was very slow. I think it would have been a total mess because it is my first time to be a director and there's a lot of CG. And I think of the color correction I did with NICK all night. At that time, I became close to Nick, broke away from the stereotype that Americans don't stay up all night, and after color correction, it was morning, but I remember them waiting for a taxi while eating McMorning.

Please introduce any techniques or production methods that Sunny Visual attempted in this work. Please think about any of the staff you worked with who you want to mention.
I think the CG was on a big scale. If you think about it at that time, Chief Oh Chang-won suffered a lot. (Because he led all the stuff with beginner directors)

How did you react after this work was released to the world? If you have any memorable feedback from artists, fans, and the same industry, please share it.
I don't remember well at that time, but I remember when the person in charge said it was his favorite music video while watching the music videos together.
